In March of 2020, as the novel coronavirus COVID19 was declared a pandemic and swept across the planet, we were asked to do our part and 'Stay Home'— to be safe, to save lives. For many, the panic was endemic as well— once friendly faces encountered during chance run-ins at the supermarket or post office were now marred by fear and suspicion. Common commodities like toilet paper, disinfectants and canned food  disappeared from shelves. Schools were closed, businesses shuddered, mass gatherings cancelled, our whole world stopped short. Anxiety, boredom and depression set in. Chaos reigned.
Creativity is the antidote to Chaos. Artists instinctively know this. Since the dawn of time, in dank caves, primitive humans had sought to immortalize their collective soul with elaborate paintings scrawled in earthly pigments. They cried out in defiance of their condition, seeking order and tranquility through art, one of our earliest forms of symbolic language. Through creativity we express our fears, our hopes, our current condition,  and the dreams for our future. Indeed, it is creativity in the realm of science that will ultimately vanquish this virus and restore order and beauty to our world.
This exhibit showcases that creativity, that all too human expression in the face of adversity. It represents the myriad of emotions we’ve all experienced during quarantine. It represents our individual hopes and fears which, if organized correctly, can collectively inspire back to ultimate heights of triumph and harmony with nature.
