 True Grit Art Gallery is pleased to present The Onlookers, the first solo gallery exhibition by artist Sarah Egan. In this new body of work, Egan explores the quiet emotional space of the observer — those moments when we find ourselves watching life rather than actively participating in it. Through approximately 40 pieces featuring solitary figures, crowded nighttime scenes, and intimate collaged portraits, she captures the subtle, often complex feelings that arise while simply watching the world: loneliness, joy, nostalgia, yearning, confusion, and quiet connection. Each piece is titled with the exact time its reference photograph was taken, encouraging viewers to slow down and consider not only what they see, but how their own mood, experiences, and perspective shape the way they observe their surroundings. As Egan describes it, the work is intended to offer “comradery to anyone who feels like they are watching their life more than participating in it.” About the Artist Sarah Egan is an artist whose work centers on human connection and nostalgia. By combining realistic figures with bold, graphic shapes, she creates powerful imagery meant to draw people out of isolation. A graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration, Egan grew up in Bridgewater and currently lives in Quincy, where she works as a Visiting Lecturer at MassArt. In addition to her studio practice, she has extensive experience as a muralist, having created and assisted on large-scale public murals for a variety of towns and organizations. Her illustration work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators, 3x3 Illustration Annual, and Communication Arts.
