'Poetic Visions— Visual Art Inspired by Poetry' Sep 14 through Sep 28

   Join us Saturday, September 14th, from 6-8pm as we host an opening reception for ‘Poetic Visions’— an exhibition of visual art inspired by local poetry. Enjoy complementary adult refreshments while socializing with other local art and poetry enthusiasts. The event is free and open to the public. 
​   Throughout the month of July 2024, True Grit Art Gallery put out a Call For Poetry to local poets from southern New England. They were asked to submit up to 3 poems with vibrant imagery and strong metaphors for an upcoming planned art exhibition. The idea was the gallery would select five poems from this pool of poetry submissions that visual artists could respond to by producing one artwork each. The catch was that the gallery would assign each participating artist a poem to work with by a purely random, lottery process. This was done to ensure an equitable artworks to poem distribution for the planned exhibit. Over 40 local poets submitted and over 40 local artists accepted the challenge. The completed artworks will be exhibited at the gallery along with the enlarged, printed poems when ‘Poetic Visions’ premieres on its opening night. The poets whose work was chosen have been invited to perform live readings of their poems as well.
