The driving force of this exhibit is the belief that poetry matters— that it broadens our perception of ourselves and of the world we inhabit. It enables us to savor the richness and complexity of our shared experiences and to better understand them. It opens doors to the mysteries and meaning of our place in the world. It challenges convention. It calls to question our current culture of instant gratification. When we read poetry, we are lifted beyond our everyday, trivial affairs and are connected with something undefinable and of permanence.
