Storytelling and visual narrative has been the cornerstone of human existence for as long as we can remember. Every stroke of a brush or burst of color in space captures a feeling that cannot otherwise be expressed with language itself. Through a diverse range of work, I construct dream-like stories that help me navigate identity in a social world. I am fascinated by ‘play’ and ‘dreams’; two mediums of non-linear forms of self expression, aimed to interpret our world and the many constructs within it. I want to implore the viewer as they delve into my work to question if the fantastical stories we conjure are just as real, if not more, than the life we lead as humans. I intend to investigate this query further through my work; to empower others tonever stop viewing our world with the burning curiosity of a child.
With an expertise in Illustration and three-dimensional fine arts, I build worlds through various mediums; (specifically but not limited to), digital collage to graphite and acrylic paint and underglaze onto handmade ceramic and paper. The medium(s), their texture, and combination of colors are carefully chosen through lengthy research and conceptual world building processes. I assemble my work between digital and traditional media with the intention to transport the viewer to another realm through vivacious characters, mark making, dramatic color schemes, and a flare of realism. Inviting a safe space for dreamers who feel they are lost, and revel in our complexities of emotion. It is important to remain curious, to investigate, and to document the state of unknowing. — A.G.
