These works that I submitted all represent the different phases I have navigated over the last few months. Like many, I was anxious, unsure and saddened.Painting seemed pointless. I felt that I neededto do something that meant something more that an image. I sewed. I baked. I cooked and shopped for me and others. I avoided the studio.Fortunately, the call was still there, soft at first but lucky for me loud enough that I had to listen to the nag in the back of my head. I started to work again.I could not be paralyzed by the new world. All of these works came from a place of uncertainty. Cumbersome at first, I painted with colors that I don’t frequent, using techniques not familiar to me. I slapped paint on with more abandon. I pulled it off with frustration. But for all of that,I felt I had to do something different to make a difference, to see CHANGE, in the world and on my canvas.
